FAQ

Questions Amazon sellers ask
before trying Profit Owl

Profit Owl helps Amazon sellers understand where their cash is, when sales become spendable money, and how payouts, holds, fees, returns, and inventory issues affect real profit.

Made the sale, but still waiting on the cash?

Amazon sellers know the gap between an order being placed and the money actually becoming usable. Delivery-date holds, settlement cycles, deposit delays, and bank clearing can make it hard to know what is really yours to spend. Profit Owl is being built to make that timeline clearer.

About Profit Owl

Profit Owl is a cash flow and profit analytics tool for Amazon sellers. It helps you understand where your money is, when sales become spendable cash, and how orders, payouts, holds, fees, returns, and inventory activity affect your business.

Profit Owl is for Amazon sellers who want a clearer view of cash flow and profitability without constantly rebuilding spreadsheets. It is especially useful if you want to understand payout timing, Amazon holds, available cash, fees, returns, and underperforming products.

We sell on Amazon, and Profit Owl was built from a frustration most sellers know well: you make the sale, but the payout does not arrive right away. Delivery-date holds, settlement timing, deposit delays, and bank clearing make it hard to know what money is actually available — and finding out meant rebuilding the same spreadsheets every month. Profit Owl is the tool we wished we had.

Yes. Profit Owl is currently focused on Amazon sellers and is built around Amazon order, payout, fee, return, inventory, and Seller Central report data.

No. Profit Owl is not a replacement for accounting software, bookkeeping, or tax advice. It is designed to help you understand operational cash flow and profit signals so you can make better business decisions.

Amazon cash flow

It means understanding the gap between making a sale and having money you can actually spend. A sale may be confirmed long before the cash reaches your bank because of Amazon holds, settlement cycles, deposit timing, and bank clearing. Profit Owl helps make that timeline easier to see.

Profit Owl maps each sale through the steps between the order and usable cash: shipment, the delivery-date hold (often called DD+7 — about seven days after delivery), the settlement that includes it, and the deposit on its way to your bank. The goal is a plain cash timeline showing what has already landed, what is still held or pending, and when the rest is expected to become spendable.

An Amazon hold is money connected to a sale that is not yet available for payout. The most common one is the delivery-date hold: funds are typically held until around seven days after the order is delivered (often called DD+7). Holds can also come from settlement rules, account-level reserves, and other Amazon payout mechanics. Profit Owl helps you see how holds affect your cash timing.

A settlement cycle is the period Amazon uses to calculate what should be paid out to you. Orders, fees, refunds, returns, adjustments, and reserves can all affect what a settlement includes — which is why the deposit that lands rarely matches your sales for the same period. Profit Owl helps you understand that timing, and what each settlement is actually made of.

That is exactly what the cash timeline is being built to do. Profit Owl does not connect to your bank account — it works from your Amazon order and payout activity to separate cash that should have already landed from cash that is still pending, held, settling, or moving through deposit and bank-clearing steps.

No. Profit Owl does not control Amazon payouts or bank clearing times, and nothing can honestly promise to. What it does is help you understand the timing and status of your cash so you can plan with more confidence.

Data and how Profit Owl works

During the current beta, Profit Owl works through Amazon Seller Central report uploads. You upload the reports needed for an analysis, and Profit Owl turns that data into clearer cash flow and profit insights. Reports are parsed and analyzed right in your browser — the raw files are never uploaded to our servers. Automatic syncing through the Amazon Selling Partner API is in development for the live version.

Yes, for now. The app guides you through which reports each analysis needs, and if you prefer, we will hop on a quick call and set you up in minutes. Once automatic syncing through the Amazon Selling Partner API is connected, manual uploads will no longer be required.

The data Amazon sellers actually use to understand cash flow and profitability: orders, payouts and settlements, fees, refunds and returns, reimbursements, advertising performance, and inventory and listing activity.

Yes. Profit Owl includes an AI analyst you can ask practical business questions — where your cash is, which products are creating returns, how fees affected a payout, or which SKUs need attention. It is the only feature that uses the cloud, and it only ever sees a scrubbed summary of your data, never your raw reports.

Profit, fees, returns, and inventory

Revenue does not tell you how much money is actually available. You can have strong sales while the cash is still held, delayed, reduced by fees, eaten by returns, or already committed to inventory. Profit Owl helps you look past top-line sales to what the business really has to work with.

Yes. Profit Owl breaks a payout into sales, fees, refunds, and shipping labels, so you can see exactly where every dollar went — without digging through multiple reports and rebuilding the math yourself.

Yes. Profit Owl tracks your returns and what each one truly costs once return shipping and lost commission are counted in, and helps you spot the products or SKUs where returns are quietly eating into profit and cash timing.

Yes. Profit Owl is designed to surface the issues that quietly reduce profitability: fee creep, costly returns, shipping costs, reimbursements you may be eligible to claim before their deadlines, dead listings, and inventory-related problems.

Listings that sit in your catalog getting traffic but producing no sales — dead weight that quietly hurts conversion, cash flow, and restock decisions. Profit Owl flags listings that may deserve review, optimization, a pricing change, inventory action, or removal.

Privacy and trust

Yes. Seller trust is central to Profit Owl. Your uploaded reports are parsed and analyzed entirely in your browser — the raw files are never sent to a server or stored. The AI analyst only receives a scrubbed summary (aggregate totals and counts, with order IDs and ASINs removed), processed by a private model in our own AWS environment. We never sell your data, and nothing is used to train a model. Read the Privacy Policy →

No. Every report you upload is parsed, rendered, and analyzed in your browser. The raw file is never uploaded to a server and never written to storage. When automatic syncing through the Amazon Selling Partner API launches, synced report data will be stored securely in our AWS environment, as described in our Privacy Policy. No. Profit Owl never publicly shares your seller reports, order data, SKU data, payout data, financial data, or account details.

No. Profit Owl is an independent tool built for Amazon sellers. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Amazon.com, Inc.

No. Profit Owl is built for analysis and visibility. It does not change listings, prices, inventory, ads, orders, or account settings — and the current upload-based beta has no access to your Amazon account at all. If a future feature ever acts on your behalf, it will clearly ask for permission and explain the action first.

Beta access and pricing

Profit Owl is currently in limited beta. A small group of Amazon sellers can request access and help shape the product.

Use the request-access form on the homepage — it just takes your email. Tell us a bit about your store when we follow up, and we will get you into the preview.

Yes. Beta access is free for the small group of sellers helping shape the product while it is being built.

No. Requesting beta access takes an email address, nothing more.

Pricing has not been finalized yet — Profit Owl is in beta, and pricing will take shape as the product develops. Beta testers will hear about pricing first, and nothing will ever be charged without you clearly signing up for it.
